Below are policies that our consignors have to agree upon before any items are listed or sold.

Do you have model trains you'd like to sell but don’t want the hassle of listing, shipping, and handling customer inquiries? Let us do the work for you! At Hobbyline Auctions, we specialize in selling model trains on consignment, ensuring you get the best value for your collection while reaching a broad audience of collectors and enthusiasts.

 

With over 1000 model train items successfully sold across our platforms, we have the experience and market knowledge to get top dollar for your trains. We currently sell through eBay, leveraging its vast marketplace, and as we grow, we plan to expand to a dedicated Shopify store.

How It Works:

  1. Submit Your Items – Contact us with details about the model trains you’d like to consign.
  2. Evaluation & Agreement – We’ll review your items, discuss pricing, and agree on commission terms.
  3. Listing & Selling – We professionally photograph, list, and market your items to maximize exposure.
  4. Payment – Once your items sell and the transaction is complete, you receive your payout minus our commission.

 

Consignment Policies:

Accepted Items

We accept most model train-related items, including locomotives, rolling stock, track, scenery, and accessories. Brands we commonly handle include Lionel, MTH, K-Line, Atlas, Bachmann, Walthers, Athearn, Kato, Broadway Limited, Märklin, and Piko. Items should be in good working condition unless noted otherwise. Rare, vintage, and brass model trains are welcome!

🚫 Please note: We generally do not accept low-value items such as Athearn "Blue Box" kits, entry-level train sets, or other low-demand items unless they are part of a larger collection. If you’re unsure whether your items qualify, feel free to reach out!

Pricing & Commission

  • We work with you to determine a fair market price for your items.
  • Our standard commission rate is 30% of the final sale price. Higher value items have lower commission rates, this will be discussed with the seller.
  • eBay selling fees and shipping costs are deducted from the final sale price before commission is applied.

Listing & Sales Process

  • Items will be listed on eBay within a few weeks of receiving them.
  • Listings will include high-quality photos and detailed descriptions.
  • We handle all customer inquiries and order fulfillment.
  • Buyers can choose between auction-style listings or Buy It Now options, and can add “make offers” on items. (If “make offer”, we will automatically take 90% of the full price, otherwise the seller will be contacted and have 24 hours to make a decision.)
  • To maximize visibility, we offer the option to pay for eBay promotions to help boost the listing in search results and reach more potential buyers. This will be discussed and agreed upon before the listing goes live.

Overstock Fee

  • If items remain unsold for an extended period of 6 months, a small monthly overstock fee of $10 per month will be charged. This fee covers the continued storage and marketing efforts for your items.

Payments

  • Payouts are made monthly [PayPal, bank transfer, check, etc.].
  • Payment is issued after the buyer's 30-day return window has closed and the transaction is finalized.

Returns & Liability

  • Items remain the property of the consignor until sold.
  • If an item is returned, we will coordinate with you on next steps.
  • We are not responsible for damage caused during shipping but take all necessary precautions to ensure safe delivery.

 

  • We ship USPS, buyers will have the option between USPS Ground and Priority. Buyers are charged for shipping.
